Spectrum Networks today announced plans to dedicate a team of journalists throughout Spectrum’s news footprint to cover nationally relevant news and events and their impact on local communities. Spectrum News NY1 veteran journalist Annika Pergament will move from her current role as “Mornings on 1” co-anchor to become a national news anchor. In this role, she will anchor breaking news events and national content across Spectrum Networks’ linear TV networks and other platforms, providing nuanced, locally-informed context. Helmed by Sam Singal, Spectrum Networks’ Vice President of Editorial and Content, who brings more than 20 years of national news experience with NBC News, this team of journalists will report on national news and its impact on Spectrum’s communities.

In a recent nationwide survey, viewers rated Spectrum News as more trustworthy than other local TV news channels by a margin of more than five-to-one.* Hellman continued, “Our audience looks to us as their definitive source of information, so it's essential for us to connect on all of the issues that matter to them.”
While the majority of Spectrum Networks’ news coverage in 2021 was focused on local community-based reporting, Spectrum Networks brought its objective journalism to specific events of national significance, producing specials on the presidential inauguration, immigration crisis at the U.S. Mexico border, and the trial of Derek Chauvin with locally-informed reporting and insights. At a time when trust in national media has never been lower,** Spectrum Networks’ audience regularly turned to Spectrum Networks as an outlet they could rely on to localize the impact of these events; this programming consistently drew double-digit increases in viewership.

With Annika’s move to the national team, Emmy Award-winning news anchor Pat Kiernan will continue to wake up New Yorkers alongside Jamie Stelter and meteorologist Erick Adame weekdays on “Mornings on 1.”
