On Friday, March 18, 2022 at about 11:07 P.M., a uniformed patrol sergeant from the Irwindale Police Department conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a black Honda Pilot SUV in the 2000 block of Buena Vista Street, which is on the border of the cites of Irwindale and Duarte. Other Irwindale Police Department officers arrived to assist.
During the investigation, the Honda’s driver refused to cooperate with the officers, refusing to provide his driver’s license or other identifying information needed to verify his driving status. After approximately 30 minutes trying to gain the subject’s cooperation without success, the officers attempted to arrest the driver for a number of vehicle code violations. The driver resisted arrest and refused to exit the vehicle. He broke away from the officers and then sped away from the scene in the Honda, leading the officers on an approximate 1.5 mile high speed pursuit through the city of Irwindale.
When the suspect reached the area of Alpha Street, west of Avenida Barbosa, he crashed through a chain link fence, launching the Honda into the Buena Vista Flood Control Channel, disabling the vehicle. Although injured, the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot, leading the officers on an approximate 1 mile foot pursuit through the flood control channel. The suspect was eventually captured by officers near the 100 block of Longden Avenue. The suspect continued to resist arrest, resulting in the deployment of an Electro-Muscular Disruption Device (commonly known as a Taser). The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics for injuries he received when he crashed his vehicle into the flood control channel. He was taken by ambulance to the Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. After receiving medical treatment at the hospital, he was released into the officer’s custody and taken to the jail for booking.
The suspect, Talsa Garron Walker, a 39-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was charged with felony evading, felony resisting arrest with violence, as well as a number of vehicle code violations and an outstanding arrest warrant. He is being held at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Twin Towers Correctional Facility in the city of Los Angeles on $105,000.00 bail.
No officers were injured in this incident and no other vehicles and/or drivers were involved in the traffic collision. Damage from the crash was limited to property belonging to Southern California Edison (SCE) and the Los Angeles County Flood Control District.
