The Duarte City Council is comprised of seven members who are directly elected by Duarte voters. The Council serves as the legislative body for the City and is responsible for establishing City policies, adopting City ordinances and resolutions, holding public hearings, adopting the City’s budget, and authorizing City expenditures. City Council also appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, and the members of City commissions and committees. Councilmembers serve a term of four years and the elections of councilmembers are staggered.
Measure J, an ordinance establishing a healthcare workers minimum wage ordinance in the City, was also up for consideration at the November 8 election. A majority of Duarte voters did not vote in favor of Measure J and therefore it will not be adopted.
Elections for City Council representative in Districts 2, 3, and 7 will be held in 2024 at the end of the current representatives’ 4-year term. Learn more about your district by visiting the City’s redistricting website.
