Did you know January is National Blood Donor Month? On December 31, 1996, President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation designating January as National Blood Donor Month (NBDM) in order to pay tribute to blood donors across the country and encourage people to donate blood. The month of January is historically a period of critical blood shortages due to winter colds and flu season, cold weather, and holiday celebrations discouraging individuals from donating blood.
Want to help save a life and give back during National Blood Donor Month? The City of Hope Medical Center will be hosting a blood drive, in partnership with the City of Duarte and Foothill Credit Union on Wednesday, January 18 to help avoid critical blood shortages. The blood drive will be held at the Duarte Community Center (1600 Huntington Drive) and appointments are required. Make an appointment by visiting IDonateBlood4Hope.org.
The City of Hope, a leading national cancer institute located in Duarte, is always in need of support and blood donations.
