Did you know that last week Duarte City Council declared March 2023 as Red Cross Month? In March 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt began the tradition of March being declared Red Cross Month and for more than 75 years, U.S. presidents have followed suit. All month long, the City of Duarte is joining the American Red Cross in celebrating individuals who make the Red Cross mission possible- providing relief and support in the face of emergencies.

For over a century, the American Red Cross has supported Americans in times of crisis. We honor the kindness and generosity of Red Cross volunteers who work tirelessly to support those in need including blood donation services, disaster relief, comforting military families, or simply offering a helping hand. We encourage the residents of Duarte to join millions of people across the United States who volunteer, give blood, donate financially, or learn vital life-preserving skills through the Red Cross.

“I am incredibly grateful to recognize this month as Red Cross Month,” Duarte Mayor Judy Schulz said. “As a city who values volunteerism and humanitarian efforts, we are honored to have made such a meaningful proclamation and celebrate all the dedicated Red Cross heroes.”

Want to be a part of the American Red Cross effort to save lives? The City will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, May 3 at the Community Center (1600 Huntington Drive) from 1 PM to 7 PM. Residents can sign up at https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive .
